Adult VBS – What are Your Gifts in Ministry?
Join us for Adult Vacation Bible School – July 18,19, and 20
How do the ministries of Pastor, Teacher, Evangelist, Prophet, and Apostle apply to our lives? Want to know your gifts for ministry?
Let’s get in tune with God’s gifts, graces, and kingdom purposes!
At Pentecost, God pours out his spirit—and God still pours out his Spirit—The Holy Spirit empowers our life and ministry! We are the priesthood of all believers, the body of Christ, made up of many members, each blessed with many gifts and graces and ministry roles given to us by God for God’s kingdom purposes.
We will be using two Christian Education tools this year: one is a Spiritual Gifts Inventory to help us locate and understand the gifts and graces in scripture along with their meaning and application.
The second tool will be centered in how each of us shares in the ministry roles of apostle, teacher, pastor, evangelist and prophet.
Worship on Sunday, July 21, will continue the teaching and sharing.

Final Words – A Lenten Study
Coming Soon for our Lenten Journey Beginning Sunday Morning February 10, 2013 – 9:45 am
In his previous Lenten study, 24 Hours that Changed the World, The Reverend Adam Hamilton took us on a Lenten journey through the last day of Jesus’ life. Now in this inspiring follow-up Lenten study, we will encounter Jesus’ final words as seen and heard through the eyes and ears of those who stood near the cross. Together, we will seek meaning and application for our lives in these last words on the cross.
And because death leads to resurrection, we will then move to the hope we have in Christ as we encounter the words of Jesus following his resurrection! Come for this important time! Invite others to this time of fellowship as we engage God’s word for our lives!
About the Author: Pastor Adam Hamilton is senior pastor of The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, Kansas. Hamilton is especially gifted at explaining difficult questions of faith in a down-toearth fashion. Hamilton is the author of many books, including The Journey, Enough, 24 Hours that Changed the World, When Christians Get It Wrong, and Why—Making Sense of God’s Will.

Summer Adult Christian Education Offering
Do you have faith seeking deeper understanding?
Then come for the Summer Adult Christian Education Offering:
With Christian love and charity, we will examine Christianity and four major world religions: Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam and Judaism. Our discussion will involve wrestling with questions like:
- Why are there so many different religions?
- How should Christians view other religions?
- How is God at work in other religions?
- What is the fate of those who earnestly pursue
- God through other religions?
This time together will help us reach out into the community to be builders of bridges, and to be salt and light in the world. It will help us understand and appreciate other faith traditions as we seek to offer a biblical response, bearing witness more clearly to who we are as followers of Jesus Christ.
Please pick up a copy of the participant guide in Sunday School, the church office, or let us know if you need one delivered to you. Contributions of $ 13 to defray the cost are appreciated but not required. Books will be available beginning June 10. This discussion is being facilitated by Reverend Martha K. McLean and Asbury UMC laity. Our time together will be on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30 PM, from July 18 through August 22.
